Artistic tips and ideas

Clean or misty?

When painting the best tip anyone can give you is to keep your brush clean, if you are trying to get that colourful clean bright look then this tip is for you. While painting with water colours make sure you have two glasses or bowls of water, use one to wet the brush and the other for washing of the previous colour of paint. This will make sure that you get a clean colourful and bold effect rather than a misty blended look but of course if that is the effect you want then don't use any water. Just dip the brush into the paint, this especially works well with acrylic or the runny for of paint then constantly use the same brush. Allowing you to get a misty blended effect using all different mixtures and tones of colours letting you show light and dark shades easily.Stuck for inspiration?

Stuck for inspiration?

My best advice would be to look around you what do you see? Do you see a red sofa if so use it as inspiration, become the brush use it to give your painting that leathery texture. If your using pencil look at the shades around the room for darker shades press harder and lighter shades just use light movements for a light effect. Just go with the flow, try thing about things in a different light, ok so you see a dog a red sofa a tree outside a blue rug and your sister
. Use your English skills! Your sister walked your dog and it climbed up a tree while your mum sat on the red sofa oblivious to it all with your cat whisky on your blue rug! Now think about it creatively, how could you paint it? Try painting it in abstract form with items that are disfigured and colours and patterns out of place, use textures and different materials to sketch the leaves, maybe oil pastels.3D's a blast

3D's a blast!

Do you find it easy to draw in 2D but a pain to draw in 3D? Well here are some easy to follow tips to help you. First look around you what can you see are you going to draw form your imagination or inspiration? So first of all draw your object in 2D, like if you can see a house over the road draw what you can see in 2D. Now look at the light and dark shades on the house add them on, next add on the major 3D lines making them bold so that they stand out. Next Add any finer lines that you can see, remember don't make it up only draw what you can see, always remind your self of what you have drawn so far and the arrangement of the lines. Add in any extra detail and the finishing touches of shading and sketching, then lastly add in all the left over light and shade with a 2B pencil if possible! If you sketch with a pen then you can add water to create a more shaded and misty effect!
