How To Stay Strong in the Face of Failure

Many people have had moments when they feel as if life, the world, and almost everything around them move forward, while they themselves, hard as they may try, stand still. More than once I have seen a project stalled, delayed or abandoned because the effort given did not justify the results. Hard work, and enthusiasm for your project, whether personal or professional, can wane if the time invested does not bring about the desired results. This situation can easily happen in the personal or professional aspects of a person's life. I can find more than a few times when this has happened with myself. Observing these situations now, after a few more years of growing maturing and living life, I find a great deal more was gained than I could see at the time.

Professionally

There are times when the challenge simply exceeds a person's abilities. Inexperience, lack of resources, or misleading information are common reasons for a project to fail. It can be difficult accepting a setback and not blaming the situation on another, or factors outside our control.

Examine the loss, learn the lesson, and move on. The world is full of opportunity. When you gain experience and learn, no matter how painful the outcome, future possibilities are expanded. Difficult and unsuccessful situations today can often prepare a team or individual for challenges they face in the future.

Tomorrow is another day, continue striving to go forward and keep moving. It is better to struggle hard and maintain your ground than to give up and slide backward.

Personally

Life can be a very hard road to travel sometime. Situations beyond our influence or control can devastate the strongest individual. Personal challenges and emotional injury seem to be a part of existing together on this little blue ball of ours. The condition might seem terminal, but if you don't panic or give up, most times you will find the steps to a cure that take a person beyond their obstacle.

A person's inner self can be a very fragile thing. A single harsh word at the wrong moment can topple a wall, unleashing years of disappointments and regrets. Never give up. You can never accept defeat when the struggle is internal. The only thing that will beat you in this war is yourself. You are the only one that can hold yourself back from conquering your inner roadblocks.

Believe in yourself. This may be the most difficult challenge a person can every face. Support and encouragement from others can be very motivating, but a strong faith in your own abilities will continue to drive you forward when outside sources fail. Be strong in conviction, dedicate to the situation, project, or challenge entirely. A diminished effort usually produces an equal result. Each person is responsible to themselves in the choices they make. To fail, maintain, or succeed, the decision is up to you.
