How to Procrastinate in Ten Easy Steps.

Step one, choose a task.

Step two, write the task on a Post It! note. A Hot Pink sticky note catches the eye.

Step three, stick the Post It! note on a hard surface where your task can be seen from anywhere in the room.

Step four, turn on the television.

Step five, turn on your computer and check your Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace.

Step seven; here is where it gets tough. Look at your Post It! note. Take about three to five minutes to remind yourself how important it is to accomplish the task at hand.

Step eight, clean your room. If this coincides with your task, do something else instead.

Procrastination, anybody can do it. It is the most attractive form of delay. According to Encarta Dictionary, to procrastinate me
ans to postpone doing something, especially as a regular practice. It happens to the best of us; there is a task to be done however, there is always something else that needs to be done first. Suddenly that letter that has been sitting on the coffee table for the past week needs to be mailed before the college paper is written. If only there was a way to avoid procrastination. It has been said that one major cause of procrastination is the fear of failure. Though putting off something as simple as taking out the trash may not be caused by the fear of failure, there are ways to eliminate it. One way is to manage time wisely. Keeping a weekly or monthly calendar helps by providing a larger prospective on the days ahead. Setting aside time to take care of things ahead of time allows more time to accomplish a task. Another way to eliminate procrastination is to develop a deadline. Deadlines are good for organization and making sure a task is completed on time. This too will allow time to complete a task while providing healthy pressure to complete it on time. A final way to avoid procrastination is to give yourself a small reward for completing the task on time. It could be something as small as an ice cream treat or something larger such as a new pair of shoes. Whatever the task is, the feeling one gets once it is accomplished is irreplaceable. It is a fulfilling feeling.
