Interview tips for job seekers

Your resume was a successful tool in getting you noticed for that new job. You've been invited for that all important interview. Get ready because that resume is on paper and the interview is all you, live and in person.

You really want this job so you have to get everything just right. Following these sure-fire tips will help you ace that interview.

* Be sure you know the location; exactly. This is not the time to guess and be late for your interview.

* Know what the specific interview is all about. Practice your answers so you'll be prepared and be sure to dress the part for the job you're seeking.

* Get to the interview a few minutes early because you may still have to fill out an application for their files and give yourself time to be familiar with the lay of the land.

* Bring a portfolio of your work or job skills if you have one, this will better highlight your qualifications.

* Always be courteous and respectful with everyone, from the receptionist to the interviewers.

* Shake hands with the interviewer.

* Watch body language; YOURS. Do not slouch and listen carefully.

* Always maintain eye contact. (This is extr
emely important, no matter how good or bad your resume is, jobs have been gotten or lost for this reason).

* Have a positive attitude about all aspects of the company you're interviewing for.

* Do not use poor language skills such as slang or cursing. Answer all questions with words such as yes or no, not head nodding or shaking.

* Project an air of confidence without being obnoxious or too aggressive.

* Do not show desperation for the job or speak about any controversial issues.

* Do not gossip or talk negative about any former employers or colleagues.

* Never lie or overstate your skills but do be sincere and stress your real achievements.

* Do not discuss personal or family matters and never say anything negative about yourself.

* Do not answer your cell phone during the interview or ask any questions about pay or benefits. (You'll find out about those issues once you have the job).

* Ask questions about the company when invited to do so by the interviewer.

* When the interview is closing be sure to inform the interviewer that you really do want the job. Don't leave them wondering.

Using these tactics once you've gained the interview will lead to more successful results in your job hunt.
