Is Poker a waste of time and money?
Poker is a game for crazy people. This is the impression I had when I began to play poker. We desperately bet but I doubt if anyone is more winning than anyone else at the end of the game. At the question is poker a waste of time and money I will answer that yes, poker is a game to be avoided.
I learnt to play poker one week ago and I lost 10$. Well! 10$ is small money (because I was playing 0.01/0.02$) but I cannot imagine myself losing more money at this horrible money taking game. At a first sight, it seems that it is easy to win at poker, but in deep it is very difficult to always have the winning hands. There is a high probability you bet and you cannot realize a monster.
What I don't like in poker is that it is not always the greater cards that always win. We never know what are in the deep of your opponents minds. When we distribute the cards and you get one 2 and one 5, you have as much chances to win the game as someone else who has a K and an A. However, when you have one K and an A, you will want to bet, but if the flop contains one 3, one 5 and one 2 all of them of a different colour, what will you do with your K and your A? Mostly you will want to wait until the turning but if nothing happens in the turning than it is better to throw everything away because your opponent can realize a monster with one 2 and a 5.
I believe that poker is a vice to avoid. I doubt if anyone can say of himself that he had won millions at poker. It is not like sport betting. Sport betting is a funny amusement that you can spend among friends and relatives, but poker is a game for machos and people trying to make you their enemy. Where does all the money of poker go? In the pockets of your "friends". However, these friends who tell you: « Hey you, let's have a poker game tonight! » are not friends even if they are. Poker creates tensions among friends as there must be a winner and a loser at the end of the night. If you have friends that invite you to play poker from time to time know that you are in an open war with them. You might say that my cleverness will stop them from robbing me my money but poker is not only a game for clever peoples. It is also a game of chance where you can lose your house, your wife, your children affection because it is like drinking; you become an addict to this awful money eating machine. You might say: « I will not bet a lot », but imagine losing only 2$ per day at this game. It is already a catastrophe. Don't think that poker will sort you a living. In poker only the luckiest of all win. You lose at poker if you're not lucky enough. Socially we can compare poker to a chance Darwinism. Only the luckiest survive. You can be intelligent, you can be fit but when it comes to poker you have to be lucky to remain existent.
