There are more pressures on your time nowadays than there ever was before. What you need to do consistently, is to see that every available bit of time that is available to you is properly utilized. It does not matter if it is to take a nap and recharge your energy, or to sit quietly and meditate to still your busy mind, or it is to shoot some hoops with your son. Never allow time to ask you the question ¡°What do I do now? It is this awareness of every minute in the 24 hour day that separates the successful from those not so successful.
One of the first things that you need to do is assess where your time is being utilized in your present way of spending it. Do not differentiate between your personal life and the time you spend at work. Both are equally important and should be looked at in an unbiased fashion.
You may be holding down another job in addition to your regular 9 to 5 one, or may be you are trying to make the extra dollar by running a home based business. This would make your time management requirement even more vital so that the extra responsibility you have taken on to get over the present economic crisis is given its rightful attention
Look at the hour or two that you feel your new home based business requires. Are you using this limited time so that every minute contributes to the business and ultimately benefits you?
1. See that your paper work is attended to and neatly kept away as soon as it is generated, and you do not have to spend time later or some other day. If you work on the computer always see that your correspondence is always neatly filed in the correct directories.
2. Always be sure that your business is going to succeed, and do not allow any negative thoughts to intrude. If you make a mistake, do not spend time on finding out the reason why you erred. Concentrate on correcting the omission, and while doing so file away in your mind the way to avoid this in the future.
3. Set yourself a time to check your e-mails. Do not be obsessed by trying to peep into your inbox or inboxes all the time. I work
a lot on the computer, but I limit myself to check my 5 inboxes once when I start, and also another time when I am closing down. The second one is only if I have been working for more than a couple of hours. I also set aside a separate day or time to devote to replying e-mails. Another tip would be to always keep your mail boxes as uncluttered as possible. Delete the unwanted mail, otherwise when you come back tomorrow you may not remember which mail is important to you and will spend time going down the whole list again.
4. Leave yourself some time to think of and plan long term projects. Set yourself targets and plan how you can get there.
5. Avoid doing too many things at one time. Better get one thing done before you take up the next one. If you try doing more than one thing at a time, you will spend some time to adjust every time you change your priority, and this can make you spend more time than you actually need to complete all the tasks.
6. Decide your priorities and stick to them. Avoid the temptation of putting off an action till tomorrow. And if you are forced to do so, make sure that tomorrow will see that that work, is completed.
7. Reading the newspaper and watching the TV are both essential activities in today's world just so you stay in touch. But allot time for these activities as well and do not linger. This could affect the time that you can profitably use for your home business.
8. If it is possible switch of your cell phone, do so. Also do not answer any calls in the time that you have allotted to your home business. Advice business associates that you will only be available to take their calls after this time. You will find that you will save yourself a lot of time.
9. If your business requires that you spend some time out on calls, occasionally, see that such visits are also scheduled for a particular day. Even your clients will appreciate such an arrangement.
