Roderick Hayes was murdered on Oct. 7,2006 at his home on 607 Booker street. He was shot 3 times in front of his mother and died in her arms. After committing this deadly act the person disappeared into the nite! Rod was a son,a brother,a father and an uncle. Rod was full of life and enjoyed a good laugh. He loved his family and we miss him dearly..I want the world to know just how much we love and miss him and how the senseless act of murder affects family members for years to come. To this day I am paranoid whenever someone knocks at my door. I have flash backs to Rod and how he simply opened a door and his life was taken. To make matters worse his friend was murdered the very same day a block away,twelve hours before. I want Rod's light to shine and make him proud. I feel his presence everyday of my life. I would like to start a foundation for families of murder victims here in Greensboro. I want to do this For Rod!! His mother is still greiving to this very day. It's almost as if a part of her very own life was taken. She told me something that tore my heart apart,she said " I was with him when he was born and I was with him when he died." Those words echo in my mind daily. You see I too am a mother of two and I couldn't possibly imagine the tremendous pain that she is going through. Recently I've noticed her just simply giving up. The world is moving around her and she is still. I remember her as being so full of life and always laughing, now she barely leaves her home. You see it's been almost three years since Rod's murder and frankly I am digusted. Tired of sitting around while the person who took his life is foot loose and fancy free. I will make it my goal to keep his memory alive. If there is anyone out there who can give me some pointers on how to start this foundation please contact me ASAP!!! I am very passionate about this and eager to get started.
