Make an order and the universe will deliver to you

I went to a rural primary school called HGM. Just because the rest of my brothers and sisters went to this school and had been clever my mom did not see the need of trying out any other.

I remember how some boys from a school in my home neigbourhood used to call my friends awfull names. How it really got it into my nerves. This was to go on for eight good years.

HGM stands for: Holy ghost mission primary school. In my mother tongue, kikuyu, the letters "could" stand for: "He gui mahede". Meaning "give dog bones".

I loved this school as I really felt at home with everybody including the teachers. I never forget Mrs Ndigira, to who, I was her favorite student and Mrs Muniafu.

But every evening when I met the boys from DB primary, I wished that the eight years would be over and I would forget that I ever gave dog bones.

My older sister and brothers were in high school. Sarah one of them used to bring me, "mabuyu" almost each day after school.

I loved "mabuyus"(some kind of nuts, hard to explain). I wished that one day
, I could be in that school where those "mabuyus" come from. Although, I was aiming for "precious blood" high school, that was on the opposite side of HGM, I considered the "mabuyus" more.

The eight years had come to an end. Unfortunately, i never managed to get the score points to precious blood, but guess what?

My mom and I went to the new school that I was going to be in to find out what I needed to take with me on school start 1992. As we waited outside for our turn, she told me that it is the same school that Sarah had been to.

At the time, I was 15 years old. Almost all the girls I knew had started menstruation apart from me. I was so anxious, I wanted to have that too and start using the OBs that we had got from the OB company that had visited the primary school when i was 13 years.

Anyway, it did not take long before I got my period during the first term in high school. I felt matured and my interest for "mabuyus" dissapeared. I was now interested in very dark skinned boys. I knew that most of them were "Luos", so i started making Luo friends. Believe me this was unconsciously.
