OPEN YOUR MIND
Our neighbor was in trouble. He urgently needed enough money for his child's care and hospitalization when she was caught with a disease. The father don't know what to do when he was advised by a physician to put his child in hospital care. His income is only enough for his family. He tried to ask help from his relatives but they declined knowing that the money he asked is quite a lot. He tried to ask from close friends but most of them cannot give the amount he wanted even if they have. He asked help from social welfare but they cannot assure that the money will arrive in due time because there are paper works to be done to be able to have a donation from them. What they personally share to him is only a little amount they can give.
The operation supposed to be schedule immediately. But the father wasn't able to raise the money needed. He cannot sell something in their house because they don't have anything of value. He tried all his effort but the conclusion prove useless and unproductive.
The next morning, his child died. The pain so unbearable. Help started coming in from relatives and friends now that she was dead. Where were they when they were mostly needed?
When our focus is limited in understanding the thing that is happening around us, there is always a feeling of "I Don't Care". We don't desire to participate in anything more productive and help others in their need. We don't want to get involved. We are not willing to open our minds to the possibility of using our efforts to help others where our help is mostly needed.
We need to regain our ability to appreciate and enjoy a simple pleasure we have in our life. We need to cultivate a simple lifestyle. We need to realize that even if our basic needs is sufficient at the moment, we should express our concern to others who are hopeless. We should learn to give and receive in balanced ways.
Even if we experience sometimes in our life difficulty in creating what we wanted but concern for others should not be disregarded. Share a little help for them and you will find that you are happy in giving. You feel that you are satisfied with what you did. Our personal life is not limited to ourselves alone. We are living in the same world, breathing in the same air. View the world as a good place for everyone.
We should not allow ourselves to have all the things we wanted. We must understand deeply that having what we truly wanted in our lives contribute to our happiness and our supports to others in creating more happiness for themselves also. We need to be more contented, doing what we love, feeling satisfied with what we accomplish. Stimulate our imagination and expand our ability to lengthen our understanding that we cannot live alone. We also need them living together in time of peace and time of suffering.
The call for help from our brothers will wake up us in our deep slumber. This will be the inspiration to contribute something for them even in small way. This will be of greatest help we can offer with meaning, concern and with love.
Share a moment with them. See what we can do and we will see that we will not regret our concern for them. Develop in ourselves an attitude of giving.
