Parents

Whatever happened to our parents while they were growing up? Since the death of my parents it has really

made me think about their upbringing. Yes I was abused by my father and my mother knew it after all she

would just cover her ears and pretend it was'nt happening. It makes me wonder were their parents abusive

towards them? I know that my moms parents were'nt abusive but I don't know about my fathers parents. How

was the law back than? It seems as if parents were able to discipline their children in any way that they just felt

like it. I do think that is why there is still abuse around now because our parents were in some way abused but

they never speak of it. Why was'nt there laws that could protect children back than? I'm talking around the 50's

and the 60's There were nights that all you could hear coming from my house was screaming and do you think

that any nei
ghbors ever came over to see what was going on? Oh no they did'nt want to know but if you went

to school with bruises all over your body, which yes that did happen to me a couple of times, that's when some

one would show interest. I know if I ever see a child with bruises all over there bodies that it is time to step up

and call the police. I tried to go to the police a few times when I was a teenager but they said they could'nt do

anything unless my mom would press charges against my father. Why? Why could'nt they help me at that time?

So that makes me worry that there are circumstances where the abuse is passed from generation to generation

and it never stops until someone like a police officer or a government agency steps into help. I believe that if

things were done years ,years ago that maybe there would not be so much abuse out there today. It is a very,

very sad thing to see any child suffer in pain and have no one to turn to when they need someone.

I think it is extremely brave of you to tell your story here on the web! I think that's very helpful in your healing process and it's nice for others who have dealt with the same thing as you. It's sad, but true a lot of the time, the one who was abused often become the abuser
