Literal meaning of the word 'Violence' directly guides one to the aftermath (the anger, the feeling to take the revenge) of when one is subjugated or exploited of his rights. There had been many examples in the past which ended up in the loss of hundreds of lives and property. Many people demonstrate how violent they can go when they are downtrodden. But the question arises that is the violence is the only way through which they find their path to their objectives?
Riot is the language of unheard.
----------Martin Luther King
1977, Sri Lankan Riots, formed the basis of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam, one of the popular terrorist army in the present world. Many people in the south and eastern part of the country are Tamil; they just wanted their rights and appealed so to the government. Many meetings were held with government (at least two as reported by the local newspaper) but no results could be drawn, as a result of which the Tamil people just formed a political party under the name Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), which now demanded a separate country for their people. In the general elections people just voted the TULF in order to boost the issue of separatism. But the new R. Jayewardene rejected their views, as a result of which riots started, there were attacks on the army and the whole state were just under severe conditions. From then on their people decided that the talk and the meeting were of no use then why don't just rebel against the government.
From this incident we may de
rive that violence is not just born from somewhere by its own, but it gradually start building in an individual or a group when they are constantly overlooked. From this example we may understand that it not they who are solely responsible for such heinous acts but the government did also play some role in driving these people to this point. May be separatism was not the right way but at least government could have find some other alternative to stop them from what they are no.
Another example of violence is the aftermath of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto the leader of the Pakistan political party. Some people just took the advantage of the opportunity and try to subject the country to severe problems. People just drag out the ATMs to the road, several private buses were burned, factories were set to fire and hundreds of lives were lost. Alone in Sindh 139 people were killed. One of the local news paper reports that the trains were also set to fire, which resulted in 3.3 million dollars loss.
Now in this example it is clear that the people are solely responsible for their acts. They should have understood that doing all this would only bring bad name to their country and moreover Benazir Bhutto in no way can come back to this world by creating problems for innocent people.
Tamil tiger' still fighting for their cause, Benazir Bhutto's life was lost but much more was lost when she left this world. So the people should try and understand that nothing can be obtained in the name of violence, even if they are subjected to problems they should try to find alternatives, instead of opting a way in which much more could be lost.
