Ever since I was a little girl, I looked up at the stars and asked, "Why am I here?" I didn't get an answer. The stars just twinkled and the satellites floated on by regardless. Later I learned that the light from those stars was already millions of years old and a lot of them probably don't exist anymore. I asked this question over and over again as my childhood was not a very happy one. At around 12 years old, I started to get the answers. Feelings, signs in nature, and a sense of knowing that I was not alone and that everything was going to be alright. Wayne Dyer said we were given a choice of lives to lead and we chose the ones we are living now, hardships and all, as a righteous path.

Sometimes I had dreams, sometimes Karma stepped in and took the strength away from my aggressors, ultimately I had the sense that I was meant for something more. My next battle was with myself. Ego is usually connected with someone who is confident and outspoken about his or her own abilities and achievements, but the most powerful ego is one that rips the heart and soul out of the person it belongs to. For whatever reason, some might say it comes from the Devil, himself, I might tend to agree as there can be nothing more evil than to be destroyed by your own thoughts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a years for 80 years without stopping. Surely that is Hell on earth?

My journey through life took a different path when I discovered that your thoughts could be changed or reprogrammed by Hypnosis and NLP. I loved to watch the British TV hypnotist Paul McKenna and invested in a copy of his book and a cassette program called 'Supreme Self Confidence', I listened to the program everyday for at least six months. In that time I took up the chance to move to Japan, I saved up, bought the tickets and with the cassette tape firmly lodged in my walkman I boarded the plane for a three year adventure in the far east. I firmly believe I wouldn't have done this had I not reprogrammed some of my more damaging thought processes with the help of this cassette.

7 years later I woke up one morning and realized that these negative thought processes had returned and were slowing chipping away at my life-force. Ghosts from the past eating my soul from the inside out. I sought help from a Hypnotherapy Practitioner in a nearby town. At first I was disappointed with the results but a few months later I realized that the issues were no longer issues and I was starting to move on with my life. I became pregnant with my 2nd child. I am not great with pregnancy and so spent the later part of my pregnancy laid up. Some friends introduced us to The Secret and I really took it to heart. As I could do nothing but sit around and wait for the baby to be born, I watched the movie over and over again.

Two weeks after I the baby was born I met a lady who was selling health products and a home business opportunity. If I had not been watching The Secret I would have sent her away but I felt I had to be open to new opportunities. The products worked and have helped so many of our friends and family, it truly was a blessing, although the business hasn't worked as well, we are still on a learning curve and will no doubt be involved with this company for the rest of our lives in some way.

Since that day 15 months ago we have been on an incredible journey of self discovery. We've taken classes in NLP, become members of a unique group founded by Dr Tony Quinn, Educo, that specializes in connecting with the spirit and controlling those pesky negative thoughts to the point were they can be eliminated, through relaxation and living in the present. We've even founded our own version of the group in our local town. When you get a group of people who are all trying to take control of their lives in this way, the opportunities for business and creating a better existence are limitless. I have surrounded myself with positive and inspiring people from all over the world using Social Media Platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. I think this new age of communication will change the world as everything we seek to know is only a click away, and if strength is in numbers then never in history can the teachings of one reach so many around the world. With technology comes environment crisis but by connecting humans with their true selves, minus the ego I believe we have the power within us to solve every problem we face, although as Einstein said, 'we can't solve a problem with the same level of thinking that created it in the first place.'

If you take anything from this article then I urge you to really concentrate on what you are saying to yourself inside your own head. If it is not positive and supportively reinforcing your choices in life, then seek enlightenment from others, The Secret is a good place to start but it is not the whole truth, it is not so simple to undo years of negative conditioning or programming by yourself, it is only with the strength and support of other like minded individuals that we will succeed. Napoleon Hill understood this when he wrote, Think and Grow Rich in the late 30's. You are the one in control of your life not your conscious thoughts, which are noting more than a series of 'computer programs' that were installed by our parents and the people around us. Isn't about time you gave this old computer a clean up?
